Since I'm one of three photographers who has covered all 23 years that this tournament has been in existence, I decided I would try to keep the streak going until I reach 25 years. I've seen it go thru four name changes (Lipton, Ericsson, Nasdaq-100 & now Sony Ericsson) & three venue changes (Delray Beach, Boca Raton & for the last 20 years, its permanent home on Key Biscayne).
Serena dominated the first set & a half. She was up three-love in the second set, when she began to unravel.
Shooting from the top of the stadium is way more enjoyable than being in jam-packed photo pit. At least there was a slight breeze, but it was still really, really, really hot!
Jelena displayed her gymnastics prowess with splits on more than one occasion.
After taking the second set by winning 7 of the next 9 games, Jelena couldn't believe Serena was making a comeback.
After smashing & throwing her racquet after she failed to convert many match points, Serena finally pulled out the win (6-1, 5-7, 6-3).
The trophy ceremony started out normal, but within seconds, some crazy South Florida weather moved in & the visibility was compromised.
I was surprised they made such a mess when the Men's Doubles final was up next.
Mmmmm ... Starbucks. This should be a staple at all sporting events.
